A review of The Oak Bistro by Tracy Andrews written on Sunday 12th of April 2009
My husband and I dined here last night to celebrate our third anniversary. Having dined at many Cambridge restaurants we had always been disapointed by the service on Saturdays you get from some of the larger restuarants. We wanted somewhere intimate and quiet with good food and wine thrown in and The Oak Bistro delivers on all counts.
Its newly refurbished inside and has managed to retain some of the cosy atmosphere of its previous incarnation (Lawyers Oyster Bar), being modern but not too modern. The gentleman who greeted us when we came in and served the wine was welcoming and efficient. The wine list was excellent and can be found on their website. The other members of staff were excellent and not overbearing. We were left to enjoy our meal and drinks in peac, despite being the last diners to leave.
We had the goats cheese and garlic kings prawns as starters and both were excellent. For mains my husband had the cod wrapped in bacon and I had fishcakes. The cod he had was amazing and perfectly cooked and the fishcakes were excellent. The puddings too did not disapoint and the chocolate panacotta is well worth a try.
If you are looking for a lovely restuarant to dine that a cosy atmosphere, good food and excellent service then book yourself a table :-).
