A review of The Oak Bistro by Cambridge Couple written on Wednesday 12th of August 2009
Really nice all round. Went there for a special meal. The restaurant itself was empty, and we thought, which briefly worried us, but it turned out everyone was in the lovely courtyard out back, which was ideal on a nice summer evening - a really nice setting.
I had the King Prawn starter, the duck confit, and the poached pears. All very nice indeed. No complaints at all.
My wife had Pork Belly starter, duck confit, and chocolate fondant. She loved it all. The taste of fondant I was given was lovely.
We had 2 glasses of Prossecco to start with, a bottle of red (a Chilean Cab Sauv - very nice), and I finished with a tawny port, while the wife had an Amaretto.
So I think we indulged ourselves somewhat (it was our anniversary) with 3 courses and more drinks than just wine. Even in spite of this I was pleasantly surprised at the bill of £86. If we weren't pushing the boat out so much, with just 2 courses and wine, we'd have been looking at about £40-£50.
We will definitely return..
