"The Ship A Real British Classic"

A review of The Ship by James Monkman written on Monday 26th of January 2004

Once or twice every decade you come across a magic teasure chest that is the perfect British pub. The Ship on Norfield Avenue Cambridge is one of those. In this treasure chest the pearls are the locals full of excentict wit with characters that you would have thought could only be fictional, the diamonds are the furnishing that dates as far back as it's construction and the gold coins are it's ample parking facilities.

As soon as you walk through the doors you are hit by the strong smell of success that only comes from a well oiled business. If you can further measure a companys success by the number of notice boards they have on the wall, well The Ship can boast more than three in the entrance hall alone.

Through this corridor is The main bar (usally very busy so turn up early if you want a stool) which is guarded by a barman with one tooth, thou what he lacks in teeth he makes up for with his tongue.

In the main bar there are a selection of popular beers and even some snacks, my favorite were the cheese and onion crisps but do try others I did not have time to try all the flavours.

In the main bar there was also a television and several tables which would make this the ideal place setting for partys, wedding receptions or funerals (depending on your circumstances).

I spent over twenty minuets in the Ship but when i left I felt it had seeped into me somehow and I could swear I could smell it for days after.

So I hope you will all join me in three cheers for a real British classic, The Ship!.
